Upcoming Summer. Take Time Out On An Island!

WE’ve got an idea for the upcoming summer, and we like to spit it out before spring slips away. Summer has a way of soothing the soul, doesn’t it? It’s a season we all adore—a time to escape, unwind, and recharge. But here’s the thing: the magic of summer lies in choosing the right destination. Get it right, and you’re in for an experience that’s not just relaxing, but truly refreshing.

Prince Edward Island is the first on my summer picks! Prince Edward Island is the kind of destination that feels like a warm hug. It’s small but mighty, with rolling green hills, red sandstone cliffs, and beaches that stretch for miles. This upcoming summer, instead of battling crowded U.S. airports or dealing with the hassle of cross-border travel, why not explore the charm and beauty of your own backyard? Trust me, PEI is the perfect antidote to the stress of the world right now.

You will love PEI! Summer is pure magic there. The weather is warm but not oppressive, the fields are lush, and the ocean sparkles like a gem. It’s the kind of place where time slows down, and you can actually breathe. Whether you’re a foodie, a history buff, or just someone who loves a good sunset, PEI has something for everyone. Plus, by staying local, you’re supporting Canadian businesses and communities—something that feels especially important right now.

Must-Visit Spots on the Island

1. Charlottetown: The Birthplace of Canada

Start your trip in Charlottetown, the Island’s capital and the birthplace of Confederation. Stroll through the historic downtown, where colorful row houses and boutique shops line the streets. Don’t miss Victoria Row, a pedestrian-only area filled with restaurants and live music. If you’re a history nerd like me, check out the Confederation Centre of the Arts, which tells the story of Canada’s founding in a way that’s both educational and entertaining.

2. Green Gables: A Literary Pilgrimage

Even if you’ve never read Anne of Green Gables, you’ll fall in love with the charm of Green Gables Heritage Place in Cavendish. Walk through the iconic farmhouse, explore the Haunted Wood trail, and imagine yourself as Anne, daydreaming under the cherry blossoms. It’s a nostalgic experience that feels like stepping into a simpler time.

3. The Beaches: PEI’s Crown Jewel

PEI’s beaches are legendary, and for good reason. The red sand, warm waters, and endless horizons make them some of the most beautiful in the world. My personal favorite is Basin Head, known as the “singing sands” because the sand squeaks under your feet. It’s also home to a famous rope swing—perfect for channeling your inner child.

4. The Food: A Seafood Lover’s Paradise

If you’re a fan of seafood, PEI will feel like heaven. The Island is famous for its mussels, oysters, and lobster, and you can’t leave without trying a traditional lobster supper. Head to New Glasgow Lobster Suppers for a feast that includes all the fixings—think chowder, rolls, and pie. And don’t forget to grab a cone of COWS Ice Cream, which has been voted the best in Canada (and honestly, the world).

5. The North Cape: Where the Island Meets the Sea

For a more rugged experience, drive to the North Cape. Here, you’ll find wind-swept cliffs, a lighthouse, and the chance to see the meeting point of the Gulf of St. Lawrence and the Northumberland Strait. It’s a spot that feels wild and untouched, perfect for those who love a little adventure.

Let’s be honest, PEI is a destination that rivals any international hotspot. It’s a place where you can disconnect from the noise of the world and reconnect with what really matters: good food, stunning landscapes, and the people you love. So when it’s summer, skip everywhere else!
