Teen Arrested After Alleged Weapon Threat on 8th Street East

A 17-year-old male is facing multiple charges after allegedly threatening a woman with a conducted energy weapon in a busy east-side parking lot on Wednesday night.

Shortly after 9:00 p.m. on April 23, Saskatoon Police received a call about a man reportedly armed with a conducted energy weapon — commonly known as a stun gun — in the 2900 block of 8th Street East. According to police, the male suspect had threatened a woman in a public parking lot. Investigators say the two individuals did not know each other.

Responding officers quickly arrived on scene and located a suspect nearby who matched the description provided by witnesses. The teen attempted to flee on foot but was apprehended after a brief pursuit. A search of the youth revealed a conducted energy weapon and several bottles of alcohol, according to a police statement released Thursday morning.

The suspect, who cannot be named under the Youth Criminal Justice Act, has been charged with possession of a prohibited weapon dangerous to the public peace, unauthorized carrying of a concealed prohibited weapon, and failure to comply with conditions previously imposed by the court.

There were no reported injuries during the incident.
