Flames Erupt at Boarded-Up Home on Avenue T South; No Injuries Reported

SASKATOON – A fire broke out at a vacant, boarded-up residence in the city’s west end early Tuesday morning, prompting a swift response from the Saskatoon Fire Department (SFD).

At approximately 7:39 a.m. on December 30, 2025, the SFD Communications Center received reports of a structure fire in the 100 block of Avenue T South. Emergency crews, including three fire engines, a rescue unit, a ladder truck, and a Battalion Chief, were immediately dispatched to the scene.

Upon arrival, firefighters observed visible flames venting from the front of the single-family dwelling. Notably, fire officials reported that while the home was secured with plywood, the board covering the front door had already been removed prior to their arrival.

Firefighting Efforts

Crews quickly established tactical positions and shut down local utilities to ensure the safety of those on the scene. Firefighters were forced to remove additional boards from windows to gain access to the interior and begin the extinguishment process.

The fire was declared under control by 8:47 a.m., roughly an hour after the initial call, though crews remained on the scene throughout the morning to monitor for hot spots and complete the final extinguishment.

Casualties and Damage

According to the SFD, no occupants were found inside the building and no injuries were sustained by either civilians or first responders.

The scene has been turned over to a Fire Investigator to conduct a comprehensive cause-and-origin examination. While the structure remains standing, an official damage estimate has not yet been released.
