SASKATOON — The family of a 36-year-old man who died following a physical altercation with security at Royal University Hospital (RUH) has identified him as Trevor Dubois.
Dubois, a Prince Albert resident and social work graduate student, was at the hospital for cancer treatment when the incident occurred on the morning of Friday, Jan. 9. According to the Saskatchewan Health Authority (SHA), protective services officers were called to his room regarding a “safety concern.” A physical struggle ensued, leaving Dubois unresponsive. Despite medical intervention, he was pronounced dead at the scene.

“He wasn’t known for any violence and had an infectious laugh,” his family said in a public statement, describing him as a dedicated community member who was determined to beat his cancer diagnosis.
The Saskatoon Tribal Council (STC) and Tribal Chief Mark Arcand are scheduled to hold a news conference today, Monday, to address the tragedy and provide support to the family.
The Saskatoon Police Service is leading the investigation.
