SASKATOON — In a narrow 6-5 vote, Saskatoon City Council has greenlit a feasibility study to explore relocating the historic Wildwood Golf Course to make room for residential housing.
The motion, brought forward by Ward 10 Councillor Zach Jeffries, aims to meet the city’s ambitious “infill” housing targets. However, the proposal has hit a sand trap of public outrage. Hundreds of residents and winter sport enthusiasts, who use the course for cross-country skiing, have submitted letters of opposition.

Mayor Cynthia Block was among those who voted against the study, expressing concerns about the loss of a “well-used, functioning asset.”
Jeffries maintains that any redevelopment would only happen if a “better, high-quality” course was built elsewhere first.
The study will investigate the financial and logistical impacts of the move, which critics call a “decades-old debate that should stay buried.”
